Alex Caulfield

Alex Caulfield is an award-winning director and writer with a strong
background as a creative producer based in Vancouver, BC.

Embracing a passion for “telling stories that make people feel less alone,” Alex is known for their work on character-driven films portraying complex female and non-binary protagonists.

Alex’s recent credits include the Lifetime television movies Sins in the Family (2023), The Podcast Murders (2022), the award-winning short film Dear Departed (2021). Their debut feature film What Comes Next is a highly anticipated, intergenerational coming-of-age story about a 17 year-old who embarks on an ill-advised relationship with an older family friend starring Alison Thornton, Mena Suvari, and Aaron Ashmore.

As their multifaceted career continues to evolve, Alex is drawn towards collaboration and community building, demystifying the industry and examining the importance of alternative pathways to success. They are deeply committed to supporting queer, trans and gender non-conforming people, autistic people and those dealing with mental illnesses by creating greater onscreen representations and providing professional mentorship opportunities.

Alex is an alum of the National Screen Institute, the Whistler Film Festival Talent Labs and they were awarded a Creator Mentorship from the Geena Davis Institute. They are one of eight participants selected for the 2021 – 2022 Women in the Director’s Chair Story and Leadership program with What Comes Next. Until 2021, Alex worked as a creative executive and on-set supervising producer at an international production and distribution company where they were instrumental in supervising the production of twelve feature length films within two years.
