Embracing a passion for “telling stories that make people feel less alone,” Alex is known for their work on character-driven films portraying complex female and non-binary protagonists.
Alex Caulfield is a rising director with a reputation for eliciting unforgettable performances and elevating every frame with emotional clarity and style. Known for their grounded, actor-forward approach, they bring a rare mix of cinematic precision and deep collaboration to each project — the kind that makes actors feel safe and producers feel confident.
Their debut feature, What Comes Next, starring Mena Suvari, is set to premiere on the festival circuit and showcases their talent for intimate, character-driven storytelling with visual sophistication. They’ve also directed two television movies and the short film Me + Her, which explores identity and the connection between a mother and daughter.
Before directing full-time, they worked as a producer and creative executive, a background that makes them uniquely attuned to both the creative and practical demands of a shoot. They’re passionate about stories that explore resilience, motherhood, and death with dignity, often centering women, queer characters, and neurodiverse perspectives.
A proud DGC member and an active mentor in directing labs and panels, they are currently focused on moving into prestige episodic drama and elevated features, projects where their emotional sensitivity and strong visual instincts can help push the story beyond what’s on the page.
